27/5 - Day 4 – miles
cycled = 38, total so far 116.
I had an excellent nights sleep. The bar downstairs
closed at 10, they turned off the fountain in the square and the chiming church
bell in the tower opposite the hotel and so it was very peaceful. It was
another sunny morning. My plan was to
follow the VV towards Josselin, leaving it after a few miles before finding my
own way cross country. I called ahead to
check that the campsite was open, and it was and so that was the plan.
The VV was easy to follow and with it being a Sunday
there were lots of other cyclists about.
Leaving the VV at the correct point was tricky but after asking for
directions I was soon making my way cross country and I arrived at the campsite
in Josselin shortly after 2. The site is
called Camping Municipal Le Bas de Le Land.
It’s a good site, opposite the Nantes Brest canal and just outside the
town. I got directed to a dedicated
cycle tourist area (just behind the bar, near the reception and showers – good
value at 6 Euros).
After pitching up, showering and changing I cycled the
half mile along the canal into Josselin.
It’s a very pretty town with lovely medieval buildings a mock chateau, a
picturesque riverside and several good looking eateries. Lunch was an excellent large pizza, glass of
Leffe and a café au lait in the town square.
I covered 38 miles and didn’t manage to get lost at
all. Josselin seems like a great place
and the campsite is excellent, I might stay here for an extra night.
Dinner was provided by the campsite owners. Spit roasted chicken and potatoes followed by
what can only be describes as 3 puddings on one plate – Ice cream (3 flavours),
a sorbet, massive chocolate brownie and custard, biscuits and loads of squirty
cream, add this to a couple of beers and I can feel my waistband expanding as I
write this in my tent. I was hoping to
lose weight on this tour but the way its going the opposite is more likely.
